Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is progressing smoothly through development, according to series director Naoki Hamaguchi, who says the game is already playable and has entered an active polishing phase. The update was shared during a recent interview with Polygon, offering fans a clearer picture of where the final chapter of the remake trilogy currently stands.
Hamaguchi emphasized that development is proceeding according to plan and that internal milestones are being met. He said, “In terms of the third installment, I believe we are coming along very smoothly. We have set a schedule for ourselves, and I believe we are tracking on time for the milestones we have set.” He went on to credit the development team for maintaining momentum, adding that he is thankful for their work and has “so much respect for them working on this project.”
While the game is not yet finished, Hamaguchi confirmed that it has reached a key technical stage. “I believe that at this point the game is playable, technically, but we are still trying to polish it so it is at a quality where we can deliver it to our players,” he explained. This places the project firmly in its refinement phase, with the core experience already in place.
Hamaguchi also discussed the role of minigames in Part 3, confirming that they will continue to be an important element of the experience. He specifically highlighted snowboarding, a feature closely associated with the original 1997 release. “Snowboarding! This is something that fans have really deep memories about!” he said. While he avoided detailed specifics, Hamaguchi made it clear that the feature is being treated as more than a brief diversion. “We understand that it’s not going to be just a simple snowboarding minigame. We want to make sure that it’s incorporated into the story to have that sort of connection with the theming of it.”
In a separate interview with GameSpot, Hamaguchi also confirmed that the official title for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has been decided. He recalled earlier discussions about narrowing down potential names and said, “I remember an interview I did at Paris Games Week about how we’d narrowed it down to two [names].” He added that the final decision was left to Tetsuya Nomura, stating, “And yes, after returning from Paris Games Week, he did choose one, so I can say the title has been locked.” The name itself has not yet been revealed publicly.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is currently in development at Square Enix as the concluding entry in the remake trilogy, following Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The game is intended to bring the reimagined storyline to a close and is being developed using a customized version of Unreal Engine 4. Square Enix has not announced an official release date. Still, Hamaguchi’s comments indicate that development is stable and entering its final stretch, with the focus now firmly on polish rather than core construction.
