Nintendo has shared new details on Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the next mainline entry in the long-running strategy RPG series. Launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, the game introduces four playable protagonists, a time-travelling narrative and expanded tactical gameplay, with pre-orders available now through the Nintendo eShop.
Set in the prosperous Dagdan Empire, the story begins 5 years after the Heroic Games, when the revived demon god Balor brings the world to the brink of destruction. With the 4 Heroes who once shaped history missing, the progenitor god Sothis calls upon the player to alter the past using the goddess Fortuna’s power and change the fate of the world.
Players can experience the story from the perspective of 1 of 4 protagonists, each offering a unique campaign and viewpoint. Cai fights to save his imprisoned father, Dietrich enters the Heroic Games after surviving a monster attack, Theodora seeks to restore the honour of her goddess while defending her kingdom, and Leda pursues revenge against her father’s killer. Progress for each story is saved independently, allowing players to switch between campaigns throughout the adventure.
Outside of battles, players will spend time exploring the imperial capital of Dagsion. The city offers facilities including an arena for training, weapon shops, temples that provide battle blessings, certification exams for unlocking new classes, inns where characters build relationships, and recruitment opportunities for expanding the player’s army. Time management also plays a role, as quests and world map exploration advance the in-game calendar.
Beyond the city, players can travel across Dagda to visit towns, take part in optional skirmishes and explore dungeons filled with materials and treasure. Dungeon encounters feature their own turn-based combat system, allowing players to chain attacks with allies during battles.
Combat remains rooted in the series’ tactical foundations, with players positioning units across grid-based battlefields while taking advantage of terrain, weapon types and class strengths. The game includes Beginner, Specialty and Advanced classes, each providing different movement options, abilities and combat roles. Weapons range from swords, spears and bows to magic and more unusual equipment, while Combat Arts and powerful Blaze Arts add new offensive options at the cost of weapon durability or health.
A new mechanic called Fortuna’s Blessing allows players to rewind battles after every move, making it possible to correct mistakes, rethink strategies or save defeated allies before continuing the fight.
Nintendo also confirmed the Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Dagdan Collection, which includes a steel game case, character art cards, a map of Dagda and an artbook. The special edition will launch alongside the standard release on September 17, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
