Details regarding the review embargo for Square Enix’s upcoming action role-playing game, Forspoken, have been revealed.
The review embargo for Forspoken is expected to end early on January 23, 2023 at 6:00 AM PST, a day ahead of the game’s release on January 24, 2023. Fans can, therefore, look forward to hearing what critics have to say about the game before grabbing their copies and embarking on Frey Holland’s journey through the fantasy world of Athia.
The Forspoken demo, which was released last month, was met with a mixed reception from fans. Since then, the development team addressed some of the concerns fans had with the state of the demo, including the UI and HDR implementation. According to them, both features are still being worked on, and fixes to issues pertaining to both will be deployed in the final release build.
Previously, database entries for the pre-load date, download size, and the most recent update for the PS5 version of Forspoken were revealed. In addition, the length/duration of the game’s main story was also revealed. During a live stream, Square Enix revealed that the story will have a length of approximately 30 hours. This does not include side content, however, and the duration is strictly with regards to the main quest.
During the stream, Forspoken Co-Director Takeshi Terada said that the magic in Forspoken is descended from Final Fantasy. With Final Fantasy XV, the studio had a title that specialized in magic. Therefore, it decided to expand upon that element with something newer in its next game, and that’s where Forspoken came in.
Terada mentioned that the studio has designed Forspoken by focusing on the magic component of the Final Fantasy series by further enhancing it, using modern technology. He said that, while it is indeed a completely different IP, it originated from ideas that are have been a part of the Final Fantasy series.
