The Gears of War E-Day beta offers several display modes on Xbox Series X and Series S, with a comparison highlighting noticeable differences in performance and visual quality between the consoles and PC.
For the campaign and the new Horde mode, players can choose between Quality, Balanced and Performance modes. Balanced is available only on displays supporting 120Hz, while Performance targets 60fps. PvP is limited to Performance mode.
On Xbox Series X, Performance mode can produce an inconsistent frame rate, fluctuating between around 50 and 75fps. The Xbox Series S rarely goes beyond 60fps, although its performance is more stable in this mode.
The main visual differences between the various settings can be seen in resolution, shadow quality, geometry, terrain detail and certain textures. Given the fast-paced nature of the game, Performance mode is the recommended option in the comparison.
PC players have more flexibility, although Frame Generation cannot be enabled during the beta. RTX 50 series graphics cards can exceed 60fps on Ultra settings at the recommended resolutions, while RTX 40 series cards can also use Ultra settings.
For players using an RTX 3060, High settings at 1080p with DLSS set to Quality are recommended to reach 60fps.
Gears of War: E-Day is being developed by The Coalition in collaboration with People Can Fly and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is the sixth main entry in the franchise and serves as a prequel to the original Gears of War released in 2006.
