Ubisoft has marked the 25th anniversary of the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise with the release of Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites, a free content update that adds a new standalone mission, current-generation enhancements and the return of the Predator event.
Available now on Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Ubisoft Connect, the Epic Games Store and Steam, Last Rites takes players to a darker region of Bolivia controlled by Los Penitentes, a fanatical cult driven by faith and violent justice. Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, the new mission tasks players with tracking down the cult’s leader, La Llorona, while navigating dangerous swamps and dense forests where limited visibility increases the threat of enemy encounters.
The update also modernises Ghost Recon Wildlands with support for 60 FPS gameplay and visual improvements on current-generation consoles and PC. Ubisoft says players can expect smoother combat, enhanced lighting and shadow effects, improved draw distances and a sharper image targeting 4K resolution.
Alongside the technical upgrades, the update expands the game’s customisation options. Players can fine-tune gameplay, difficulty, environmental settings and the user interface, while also adjusting elements such as enemy behaviour, weapon restrictions, friendly fire, weather conditions and HUD options to create a more personalised tactical experience.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Ubisoft has also brought back the fan-favourite Predator event, allowing players to once again face the extraterrestrial hunter in Wildlands.
Creative Director Olivier Leonardi said the update was designed to honour the series’ legacy while thanking the community for its support over the past 25 years, adding that the team wanted to deliver an experience that felt authentic to longtime Ghost Recon players.
Ubisoft is also celebrating the milestone with a series of free offers. Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are free to play from August 6 to August 10, while Ghost Recon: Future Soldier can be claimed free on PC through Ubisoft Connect between August 6 and August 13. In September, Ubisoft will release the Ghost Recon Breakpoint 25th Anniversary Bundle, featuring free cosmetic items including the M4A1 Tactical Brown, Wolf Enhanced Helmet and Opheis Mk.II Hunter.
The publisher has also launched the Ghost Recon Insider Program, giving fans the opportunity to register for a chance to help shape the future of the franchise and provide feedback on the next Ghost Recon game.
