Gran Turismo 7 Will Soon Be The Best Selling Game In The Long-Running Series

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital’s sim racing game, Gran Turismo 7, will soon become the best selling game in the long-running series, based on the latest information.

According to Matt Piscatella, the executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana (NPD), Gran Turismo 7 currently trails only Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec as the second best selling title in the franchise in terms of lifetime dollar sales in the US. He added that it is likely to catch up at some point later this year, suggesting that it isn’t far off from claiming the top spot.

A major part of Gran Turismo 7’s success is the series of content updates and new features that it has been receiving since its release on March 4, 2022. A few months ago, the game received support for 120 Hz Output and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) as well as a 4-player split-screen mode. Also, in addition to the existing AI mode, developer Polyphony Digital added support for a prototype version of the AI racing agent “Gran Turismo Sophy”, which was made available only in the PS5 version of the game on specific tracks for as many as 340 cars.

GT7 was developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is the eighth chapter in the mainline Gran Turismo series. It was revealed during the PlayStation 5 reveal event on June 11, 2020, and was released on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, making it the series’ first multi-console entry. The game uses the PlayStation 5’s improved processing capabilities, dedicated ray-tracing hardware, custom solid-state drive storage, Tempest Engine, and DualSense controller to support features like advanced haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, real-time ray tracing features during replays, 3D spatial audio, and faster loading times. Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 5 also has 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, as well as compatibility for high dynamic range.
