Obsidian Entertainment has announced that Grounded 2: Into the Abyss will launch on August 11, bringing one of the game’s largest content updates yet. The update opens the pond in Brookhollow Park, introducing a vast new area that players can explore both above and below the water’s surface.
The new region expands the game’s focus on exploration, allowing players to venture into underwater environments filled with hidden locations, fresh challenges and new mysteries. As they progress through the pond, players will unlock diving suits that increase the amount of time they can remain underwater, giving them access to deeper areas that were previously out of reach.
Beyond the pond itself, the update also introduces additional locations including the Mountains and the Bayou, each offering new discoveries and obstacles as players continue their journey through Brookhollow Park.
The underwater environment is home to both returning and new threats. Familiar creatures such as the koi fish and diving bell spider make a return, while additional enemies await players willing to explore the deepest parts of the pond.
To help with traversal, the update introduces the Toe-biter, a new amphibious Buggy capable of travelling across both land and water. Obsidian says the new companion is designed to make exploration more flexible while giving players new ways to approach encounters throughout the pond.
According to the development team, Into the Abyss builds on the underwater exploration featured in the original Grounded while incorporating lessons learned during the sequel’s development. The studio also said community feedback played an important role in shaping the new content.
Obsidian confirmed that the pond is only the beginning of its plans for Brookhollow Park, with additional areas, creatures, gameplay systems and other content planned as development continues.
Grounded 2 is currently available in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, as well as in Early Access on Steam and PlayStation 5. The game is also included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and supports Xbox Play Anywhere.
