Xbox Game Studios and 343 Industries’ first-person shooter, Halo 5: Guardians, had a story roadmap that was abandoned after poor reception from fans, based on a new report.
Halo insider Mr_Rebs_ took to Twitter/X to share that he recently had the opportunity to speak to a Halo 5: Guardians developer, who confirmed to him that 343 Industries had created a roadmap to continue the game’s story. However, the studio ultimately decided to drop those plans due to negative reactions from series fans.
According to the anonymous Halo 5: Guardians developer, the development team had planned to have a much bigger role for the Guardians after the events of the main campaign. However, they said that the reactions towards the group of characters were so negative that the narrative team tried to wrap it up the story as quickly as it could.
The Halo insider mentioned that the reason he’s sharing details from his conversation with the anonymous Halo 5 developer now is because fans often tend to ask Why Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) keeps coming up with new concepts for each of its games. As such, he wanted to finally provide Halo fans with confirmation that it’s a result of negative reactions from the fans themselves.
Recently, Tyler Owens, former developer at Halo Studios, was asked about a PC port of Halo 5: Guardians, to which he responded by saying that he wished it could have happened, but it never will at this point. He said that the port that was being considered had run into significant technical hurdles, and was, therefore, scrapped.
Speaking of canceled Halo projects, Mr_Rebs_ had previously shared details regarding the canceled Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite. According to his source, a former Halo developer, Project Tatanka was started by 343 Industries because the studio wanted to create a Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite for a long time.
