It has been confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will require a day one patch the first time players launch the game.
Players must install the update before booting the game for the first time. Once the patch has been downloaded and the initial setup is complete, the entire campaign can be played offline from beginning to end without requiring an internet connection.
The requirement means players will need to connect to the internet when launching the game for the first time, but only to install the mandatory update.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled to launch on July 28, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Developed by Halo Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios, it is a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign built in Unreal Engine 4.
The remake follows Master Chief as he battles the Covenant across the mysterious Halo ringworld while introducing expanded gameplay mechanics, including vehicle hijacking, additional weapons and a new three-mission prequel storyline.
