Rumour: ROG Xbox Ally Could Receive Major Software Overhaul Later This Year

by Ali Haider

A new rumour suggests the ROG Xbox Ally update roadmap could include a significant overhaul before the end of the year.

The claim comes from Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, who said he has heard that ASUS and Microsoft are preparing a substantial update for the Windows-based handheld.

“I have heard there is like a big update coming for it later this year, like a more of like an overhaul maybe,” Corden said.

No further details were shared, leaving it unclear whether the reported update would focus on the device’s Xbox interface, Windows integration, performance or additional features.

The ROG Xbox Ally is a handheld gaming PC developed by ASUS in partnership with Xbox and AMD. Powered by AMD Ryzen Z2 processors, the device features an Xbox-inspired control layout and boots directly into a controller-friendly Xbox interface while retaining access to Windows and third-party storefronts such as Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Recent updates for the handheld have introduced features including Automatic Super Resolution preview support, improvements for switching between handheld and docked modes, streamlined controller pairing, smart TV latency optimisation and expanded Armoury Crate Special Edition functionality.

Neither Microsoft nor ASUS has announced a major update for the ROG Xbox Ally. As a result, Corden’s comments should be treated as rumour until officially confirmed.
