Director Peter Berg has confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty movie will be set in the Modern Warfare universe.

The announcement was made during Fanatics Fest, where Berg revealed that the live-action adaptation will draw from one of the franchise’s most popular storylines. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 30, 2028.

The confirmation means the movie will adapt the Modern Warfare setting, which is home to characters including Captain John Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley and Task Force 141.

The Call of Duty film is being produced through a partnership between Paramount Pictures and Activision. Berg is directing the project and is co-writing the screenplay alongside Taylor Sheridan, whose previous credits include Yellowstone and Sicario.

First launched in 2003, Call of Duty has become the best-selling first-person shooter franchise in gaming, spanning historical conflicts, futuristic warfare and the free-to-play battle royale experience Warzone. The Modern Warfare series remains one of its most recognisable and commercially successful sub-franchises.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres on June 30, 2028, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Call of Duty franchise.
