Ubisoft has announced Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, a modern reimagining of the classic turn-based strategy game. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the remake is scheduled to launch in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation and PC through Ubisoft Connect, Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Ubisoft+.
Developed by Ubisoft’s Chengdu and Shanghai studios, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is being rebuilt using the Snowdrop engine. The remake replaces the original fixed 2D isometric presentation with a detailed 3D world, free camera control, 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, real-time weather and changing seasons.
The core gameplay will retain the original combination of turn-based strategy, RPG-style hero progression and tactical grid-based combat. Ubisoft is also introducing quality-of-life improvements and additional planning tools intended to make decision-making more intuitive while preserving the foundations of the original game.
The campaign follows Queen Catherine as she attempts to restore order to Erathia following the assassination of her father and the invasion of multiple factions. The remake will include the complete content of the original game alongside both expansions, Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death.
All 9 original factions and their campaigns will be included, with the story presented as a continuous experience. A new introductory prologue campaign will also be added to help players familiarise themselves with the world and gameplay, while newly produced cinematics will expand the presentation of the story.
Multiplayer is also being revamped. Players will be able to play solo or compete with up to 8 players through an updated online mode featuring improved matchmaking and simultaneous turns. The popular Hot Seat mode will also return.
Community-created content will remain a major part of the experience. Ubisoft says the remake will retain compatibility with thousands of maps and campaigns created by players over the past 25 years, allowing existing community content to remain accessible.
The game will also introduce updated editor tools and an in-game user-generated content hub, making it easier for players to find, download and share maps and campaigns.
The audio experience is being modernised as well, with voice acting, layered music and ambient effects. Ubisoft says new sound cues will respond to actions such as combat, spellcasting and changes in morale, while aiming to retain the atmosphere of the original game.
Alongside the remake announcement, Ubisoft confirmed that Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete is now available on Steam. This marks the first time the Complete edition of the original game has been released on the platform.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is scheduled to launch in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation and PC, with the game also available through Ubisoft+.
