Hideki Kamiya Asks Capcom To Let Him Work On Okami 2 & Viewtiful Joe 3

Japanese game designer and creator of Okami and Viewtiful Joe IPs, Hideki Kamiya, has asked Capcom to let him work on Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3.

During a recent interview on the UNSEEN YouTube channel, Hideki Kamiya shared insight into his future plans and reflections on his career. Despite being currently unemployed, he clarified that he has not retired from the industry and hoped his creative drive will continue. He also talked about the possibility working on Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3.

Kamiya recalled a prior incident on Twitter/X, where he first brought up the idea about making another Okami game. It quickly went viral, despite him not confirming anything. He added that it highlighted just how much fans would like to see a sequel. He also pointed towards a recent Capcom survey that gauged fan interest in various game series and characters. Okami ranked high in the survey, prompting Kamiya to express his lingering sense of duty to continue its story, which he felt was left incomplete.

Furthermore, Kamiya expressed a similar sentiment for Viewtiful Joe 3, mentioning that its absence from the survey’s possible choices encouraged him to send the response, “I am Hideki Kamiya, let me make Viewtiful Joe’s sequel” to Capcom. However, his input was not reflected in the survey results, despite comments from some fans being highlighted by the publisher.

Kamiya talked about the importance of recognizing the voices of developers, not just players, and emphasized that developers are also a part of the gaming auduence. He pointed out how the viral reaction to the possibility of Okami 2 on Twitter/X highlighted the enthusiasm of fans for a sequel, suggesting that such reactions could potentially spark new projects. Ultimately, Kamiya conveyed his desire to collaborate with Capcom, and encourage shifts in the industry to meet the expectations of dedicated fans.
