Horizon Forbidden West World Map Looks Absolutely Massive Compared To Original

We have our first look at the world map for Horizon Forbidden West which looks bonkers in comparison to the first game.

First, we have the world map of Horizon Zero Dawn, courtesy of Fandom. According to their estimates, the world map is roughly 4 miles.

“Horizon Zero Dawn’s world spans a wide range. The approximate width of the map, assuming that each unit step is equal to an imperial foot, is around 20,000-21,000 feet, or about 4 miles.”

Next, we have the Horizon Forbidden West world map. This is taken from the Collector’s Edition of the game courtesy of a reddit user.

Taking a look at both of these, it is clear that there is quite a diversity in biomes for the sequel. There is a large amount of area with water that was not present in the original game. According to rumors, Aloy won’t just have fast travel, she can also use various mounts to travel to a different location. While we won’t spoil them, you can look forward to acquiring them once the game arrives on February 18.

As for the length of the world map in Horizon Forbidden West, it is hard to estimate the size since the game is not out yet, and we don’t have it either, but there is a video posted to Twitter that gives an idea of its length.

So judging by the video, there is indeed a lot to cover in terms of land. While the developers were modest when talking about the size of the world map, saying it was only ‘slightly’ larger, the final release does suggest it is quite a bit bigger than the first game.

Horizon Forbidden West is released for the PS4 and PS5 on February 18, 2022. It was developed by Guerrilla Games and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game already has a day one patch and it is available to pre-load now if you have it pre-ordered digitally.
