A new report claims Sony Animation was at one point developing a Horizon Zero Dawn animated series, although it is unclear whether the project is still in active development.
According to the report, the animated adaptation continued to be explored even after plans emerged for a theatrical Horizon Zero Dawn film. However, its current status and any connection to the previously announced live-action television series remain unknown.
If the project is still in development, it would represent another expansion of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon franchise beyond video games.
The Horizon series follows Aloy as she explores a post-apocalyptic Earth populated by advanced machine creatures. Since the release of Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017 and Horizon Forbidden West in 2022, the franchise has become one of PlayStation’s flagship properties.
Sony is already pursuing a live-action adaptation of the series. Following the cancellation of Netflix’s Horizon television series, Sony and Columbia Pictures shifted their focus to a live-action Horizon Zero Dawn film through PlayStation Productions. The movie is reportedly targeting production in late 2026 ahead of a planned theatrical release in 2027.
Sony has not officially announced an animated Horizon Zero Dawn animated series. As with all rumours, it should be treated with caution until Sony provides an official update.
