Jailbroken PS5 consoles and associated PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts are getting banned for connecting to the internet, according to a new report.
A post shared by an unofficial Turkish PlayStation Facebook group (via oliver_drk on Twitter/X) has claimed that a local PlayStation user connected their jailbroken PS5 to the internet and were permanently banned from PlayStation Network (PSN). According to the post, both the user’s account and console were rendered unusable for online services.
The warning was shared by the Facebook group’s moderator after a member reportedly posted the incident and later deleted the post following comments from other users. The moderator said he wanted to share the information with people considering jailbreaking their PS5 consoles.
A screenshot accompanying the post shows the PS5 displaying error code WS-116332-6, with a message stating that the console’s services access is “permanently or temporarily suspended.” Apparently, the affected user said they had purchased the PS5 only three months earlier and asked whether there was any way to fix the problem.
The incident serves as a warning for users that have their PS5s on firmware 13.60 or below. Connecting a modded console to PSN’s online services comes with major risks, including losing access to online features and having the console itself permanently suspended.
Recent developments in the PS5 homebrew scene allowed hackers to make significant progress toward expanding access to newer console software versions. A jailbreak for PS5 firmware 13.60, just two versions behind the latest firmware 14.10, is now available. It uses the “relapse” exploit that was originally posted by modders Nathan Fargo and Sonic ISO. Consoles running firmware above 12.00 previously had to wait around 50 minutes to load the jailbreak, whereas the new method can reportedly load in just a few seconds. It’s worth noting that the new jailbreak applies to both the base and the PS5 Pro consoles.
