Major Breakthrough Brings PS5 Closer To A Complete Jailbreak

A major breakthrough has brought the PS5 console closer to a complete jailbreak, according to a new report.

Recent developments in the PS5 homebrew scene suggest that hackers are making significant progress toward expanding access to newer console software versions. At the center of the latest work is Slopkit, a project that is being prepared to support several newer PS5 firmware versions, potentially opening the door to a WebKit-based entry point. According to information shared by PS5 scene developer couldbeautism and content creator RobinsonPauli18, new firmware-specific offset files have been submitted for Slopkit.

These files are important because they provide the addresses the software needs to locate functions and other components on different versions of the PS5 system software. The latest work reportedly covers versions up to 13.60.

The development comes alongside evidence of progress on another important part of the exploit chain. A screenshot shared by couldbeautism references a “Slopervisor proof for latest FW” and says a hypervisor-defeated proof-of-concept was tested on firmware 10.00, with 13.60 listed as a possible target.

That said, while these developments bring the PS5 closer to a complete jailbreak, the Slopkit work is still being tested, and at least one important value in each firmware profile reportedly requires verification on real consoles. Other components required for a full jailbreak, including kernel-level access and projects such as etaHEN and kstuff, don’t automatically become available simply because these offsets have been added.

PS5 owners hoping to eventually run homebrew or other unofficial software are advised to not update their console for now. Automatic system-software downloads should also be disabled, and users should wait for confirmation from known scene developers.

Back in January, Twitter/X user DesignerLeake, who founded and documented the Star Wars Racer Revenge stack overflow, shared that the PS5 exploit could be achieved via other vulnerable PS2 titles that could potentially serve as alternative entry points. Read about it here.
