Sales of Capcom’s action-strategy game, Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess, failed to meet the publisher’s expectations.
During a Q&A session after its second quarter financial results briefing, Capcom revealed that its new title, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, did not meet its projected sales numbers. Despite receiving reasonably high scores on review aggregator sites and positive feedback from the fan base prior to its release, the game fell short of the company’s expectations.
Capcom attributed the lack of sales for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess to insufficient pre-release marketing and promotion, resulting in an adequate amount of interest and awareness. However, the company plans to continue efforts to reach its projected sales target for the game.
Meanwhile, in terms of sales, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is performing as per Capcom’s expectations. Physical copies of the game are set for release later this month in November, 2024, and the company stated that it will continue its promotional efforts for the title.
Additionally, Capcom revealed that sales of Ace Attorney Investigations 1&2 Mitsurugi Selection and Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics are also in line with their respective projections. For the latter, a physical version is also scheduled for release in November, 2024, with additional promotional efforts planned to boost its sales.
For the uninitiated, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a third-person action-strategy game that incorporates elements of real-time strategy and tower defense gameplay. Players take on the role of Soh, who must protect a divine maiden named Yoshiro. Together, they work to cleanse villages of “defilement” and restore peace to the legendary Mt. Kafuku. Gameplay is divided into two phases. During the daytime, Soh explores villages, rescues villagers, and sets up contraptions in preparation for nighttime battles. At night, evil spirits called the “Seethe” emerge from Torii gates to attack the village. Players must collaborate with the rescued villagers to defend Yoshiro from these hostile forces until sunrise.
