Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls Plans Input And Assist Changes

by Greg Martin

The developers of Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls have outlined several changes planned for the fighting game’s upcoming updates, with input responsiveness and the frequency of Assists and character tags among the main areas being addressed. The team is also holding off on major character balance changes while players continue discovering new techniques and team combinations.

In a message to players, director Sekine acknowledged that the game’s launch was affected by stability problems on PC and said the development team is continuing to work on improvements. The team has also been monitoring how players are using the game’s mechanics since its August 6 release.

One of the planned changes concerns input response. The developers have identified situations where attacks performed from aerial dashes or Free Flight can fail to register correctly. The current system uses a six-frame input buffer when a button is held, but the team plans to change how inputs are processed so certain actions can still activate without the button being continuously held.

The developers are also looking at the game’s Assist and Switch systems. Players have found ways to use these mechanics more frequently than the team originally anticipated, resulting in concerns about the amount of Assist and tag activity during matches.

The current plan includes increasing the cooldowns for certain Assists and Switches. The developers want to retain the chaotic moments created by characters entering battles while giving players more opportunities for neutral play and reducing periods where they cannot directly input commands because of repeated tags.

Character balance changes will be more limited for the time being. According to the development team, Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls remains in a discovery phase, with new character techniques and team combinations continuing to emerge. The developers also expect changes to Assists and tags to affect overall match balance, making broader character adjustments premature.

The team intends to introduce the planned changes while minimizing their effect on major competitions, including Arc World Tour qualifiers.

The developers also shared character win-rate statistics, excluding mirror matches. The figures show a relatively narrow range, with the highest rates belonging to Blade and Magik at 52 percent, while Wolverine, Deadpool and Champion sit at 48 percent. Most of the roster falls between those figures, with 50 percent being the most common result.
