Marvel’s Spider-Man is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and features an original storyline inspired by the comic book lore and other adaptations. In the game’s main plot, Spider-Man faces off against the super-human crime lord Mister Negative, who aims to take control of New York City’s criminal underworld. As Mister Negative threatens to unleash a deadly virus, Spider-Man must stop him and protect the city, all while dealing with the personal challenges of his civilian identity, Peter Parker.
The game is played from a third-person perspective and focuses on Spider-Man’s traversal and combat abilities. Players can freely roam through New York City, complete missions, and unlock new gadgets and suits by progressing through the main story or completing tasks. Outside of the main story, players can undertake side missions to access additional content and collectibles.
In combat, players can use three buttons: one for dodging, one for physical strikes, and one for web-based attacks. Webbing can be employed to immobilize enemies and attach them to nearby objects, effectively removing them from the fight. When enemies are knocked from significant heights, they are automatically webbed to a nearby surface to prevent fatal falls. Spider-Man can also utilize the environment for combat by leaping off walls and using objects such as manhole covers, grenades, and webbed-up enemies.
