Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games’ next superhero title, Marvel’s Wolverine, may feature some surprise cameos, based on the latest information.

Speaking during the latest Kinda Funny Gamescast, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Game Director Bryan Intihar confirmed that the Spider-Man games and the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine exist in the same universe.

According to Intihar, both Spider-Man and Wolverine belong to universe 1048. This was previously suggested in the original teaser for Marvel’s Wolverine, and was confirmed for Marvel’s Spider-Man in the Across the Spider-verse movie. Based on this information, the door is open for a potential tie-in between both series. “We wouldn’t be true Marvel fans if we didn’t have discussions like that, but I think for us it was, ‘Hey, working on these games is really hard. They’re really complicated.’ And I think it was just like, ‘Hey, let’s let the Wolverine team cook.’ Let’s let them cook and if something ever happens in the future, great,” he said.

Additionally, during an interview with IGN, Intihar was asked about the Daredevil reference from Marvel’s Spider-Man, which is now missing from the sequel. “That’s a good question. Stay tuned. Good find, though,” he said in response, suggesting that Daredevil may be one of the  surprise cameos in Marvel’s Wolverine.

Marvel’s Wolverine has yet to receive an official release date. However, during a previous episode of Game Mess Mornings, Jeff Grubb, who is known for his connections in the game industry, had stated that the game will see release sometime within the Fall 2024 window, and will be rated M for mature.

According to Grubb, Marvel’s Wolverine is aiming to launch a year after Spider-Man 2 in Fall 2024. However, he added that Insomniac is internally discussing a 2025 release date, suggesting that things weren’t set in the stone at that point. Grubb also claimed that Insomniac is aiming for a “hard R” rating, implying an M for mature rating as per the ESRB. He further stated that the game will be avoiding any ties to Fox’s X-Men movies.
