Nintendo is allegedly planning a Metroid Prime 2 Remastered release for the Switch sometime early in the year 2025.
Twitter/X insider SamusHunter2, who is known for sharing Nintendo related leaks, stated that the console maker was originally planning a standalone launch for Metroid Prime 2 Remastered this year, but it got pushed a couple of time and is now planned for release early next year in 2025, likely between Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and the Switch Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition.
The Nintendo insider further mentioned that it is very peculiar how the company has handled the three Metroid Prime games, with their releases happening over a year after the completion of their development. They said that the console maker can launch Metroid Prime 2 Remastered and Metroid Prime 3 Remastered whenever it chooses to do so. Though, they speculated that an announcement could happen at the upcoming The Game Awards 2024 on December 13, as the timing would fit.
As for whether Metroid Prime 2 Remastered and Metroid Prime 3 Remastered would be released in a bundle, the insider said that they were originally planned as a separate releases. However, given how Metroid Prime 2 Remastered got pushed to the release window for Metroid Prime 3 Remastered, they speculated that it’s possible they will be launched as separate releases on the Nintendo eShop and as a bundle at retail. They clarified that they didn’t have concrete information in this regard, but they added that they will keep fans updated.
Previously, during an episode of Last of the Nintendogs, host Jeff Grubb, who is known for his sources within the game industry, had stated that Metroid Prime 2 Remastered would be released “relatively soonish”. According to him, the remaster will feature modern controls and and will be rendered in high definition, but it won’t get the love and care from the development team that Metroid Prime Remastered received.
