Microsoft Reportedly Approached Moon Studios About Working On Ori 3

by Muhammad Ali Bari

Microsoft has approached developer Moon Studios about the possibility of the team working on a part 3 in the Ori series, based on a new report.

Thomas Mahler, CEO and Creative Director at Moon Studios, took to the No Rest for the Wicked Discord to share that had recently received a call from Microsoft to discuss the possibility of Ori 3. Though, he clarified that, for now, the highest priority for him is No Rest for the Wicked. He added that while the studio will be able to do a lot of things, his current focus is to perfect the upcoming action role-playing game.

A member of the No Rest for the Wicked said that they’d rather a potential Ori 3 not be made if it isn’t developed by Moon Studios. To that, Mahler responded by saying that the biggest issue with another studio handling the development of a third entry is probably the story. According to him, one could take all the mechanics from Ori and the Will of the Wisps and expand upon them. Though, he added that one would need some incredibly good level designers in order to pull it off.

Story-wise, however, Mahler couldn’t think of a studio that would fit perfectly to continue the story of Ori. Another Discord member said that Ori 3 is already being worked on by another studio in collaboration with Microsoft. While Mahler thought that this may be the case, he pointed out that, in such an event, the publisher would never have reached out to Moon Studios, which would be very strange in his view.

A prior leak from Twitter/X user NWeedle, had suggested that the game Ori 3 may be a prequel, as there is no reference to the number “3”. The leaker had also stated that the game may be shadow dropped upon its eventual announcement.
