A native PS5 version of Microsoft and Mojang Studios’ sandbox game, Minecraft, is now available for preview, based on the latest report.
Twitter/X user videotechuk_ has reported that a native PS5 version of Minecraft is currently available for preview with improved visuals. They mentioned that in order to access it, players will need to go through the PS4 version’s settings to redeem the new version and download it.
As seen in the screenshot above, players will need to access the settings menu in the PS4 version of Minecraft and then head over to the Preview section. There, they will now see the option to get the preview build of the game for both the PS4 and PS5. Selecting the PS5 preview build will take them to the PlayStation Store, where they will be able to redeem the PS5 version, as seen in the screenshot below.
The Twitter/X user also shared a screenshot of the graphics settings in the PS5 version of Minecraft. The new version doesn’t support ray tracing, though it does offer the option to run the game at higher graphical settings and with improved render distance and anti aliasing. The options to run the game at a native resolution of 4K as well as to set the frame rate cap limit are also available in the PS5 preview build.
Prior hints had already suggested that a PS5 version of Minecraft was on its way. Title IDs for a native version of the game were recently published on the PlayStation Network back-end. When the PS5 launched in 2020, Minecraft didn’t have a native version due to Microsoft not receiving a development kit from Sony. Instead, an Xbox Series X|S port was released, while PS5 users played the PS4 version via backwards compatibility.
As of writing, Minecraft is officially available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
