Modders Have Created Tool To Recompile Xbox 360 Games To Native PC Ports; Sonic Unleashed Now Playable On PC

by Muhammad Ali Bari

Modders have created a tool for recompiling Xbox 360 games to native PC ports, and have released an unofficial PC version of Sonic Unleashed.

XenonRecomp converts Xbox 360 executables into C++ code, which can then be recompiled into native PC ports. The tool’s GitHub page mentions that it currently only supports x86 platforms due to the use of x86 intrinsics. The project was inspired by N64: Recompiled, a similar tool for N64 executables. Additionally, many parts of its CPU code conversion process have been implemented by heavily referencing e Xenia emulator’s Power PC code translator. The project also uses code from Xenia Canary to patch Xbox360 executable (XEX) binaries.

Xbox 360 native pc ports

The unofficial PC port of the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Unleashed is titled Unleashed Recompiled. It has been created through the process of static recompilation. The port offers Windows and Linux support with numerous built-in enhancements such as high resolutions, ultrawide support, high frame rates, improved performance and modding.

It’s worth noting, however, that the project doesn’t include any game assets. Those who intend on running the PC port must provide the files from their own legally obtained Xbox 360 copy of Sonic Unleashed to install or build Unleashed Recompiled.
