NetherRealm Studiios has officially teased the latest entry in the Mortal Kombat fighting games series, Mortal Kombat 12, with a brand new teaser, with more news to follow soon.
Mortal Kombat 12 has officially been teased by developer NetherrRealm on the series’ Twitter account. The teaser shows a clock ticking away, with the seconds hand coming to a halt at the digit ’11’. It then proceeds to skip ’12’ and goes directly to the digital ‘1’, suggesting the possibility of a reboot, where the series has possibly returned to the beginning of its cycle.
This isn’t the first time a reboot has been hinted at with regards to the 12th entry in the series. Since receiving a major update, the official Mortal Kombat website now includes character designs quizzes, and highlights on each character’s page. However, the interesting bit here is that the roster of characters featured on the site is from the original Mortal Kombat, and characters from future entries are nowhere to be seen, suggesting that the next entry may end up being another reboot.
Additionally, earlier rumors also suggested that the 12th entry in the Mortal Kombat series would be a reboot, with mention of some new ancestral twists. According to the rumor, both Sonya Blade’s father and an ancestor of Kung Lao will make an appearance as playable characters. But that’s not all. The rumors also state that the Krypt will now feature combat, and your character will have the ability to learn new moves from certain opponents. It’s also said to be bigger in scope, featuring new areas to explore.
Recently, a teaser for Mortal Kombat 12 was revealed during a 30th anniversary video, in which developers celebrated the series and its fans. It showed a series of particles dropping from above and shattering away. This was yet another hint at a possibility of a reboot.
