Mortal Kombat 12 Announcement May Be Coming Soon

The latest entry in Warner Bros Games and NetherRealm Studios’ fighting game series, Mortal Kombat 12, may be nearing an official announcement in the coming week.

The official website for the popular fighting game series has received a major update, hinting at the possibility of a Mortal Kombat 12 reveal happening soon. Additionally, pro fighting game player, SonicFox, also anticipates an official announcement in this regard sometime this week.

Since receiving a major update, the official Mortal Kombat website now includes character designs quizzes, and highlights on each character’s page. However, the interesting bit here is that the roster of characters featured on the site is from the original Mortal Kombat, and characters from future entries are nowhere to be seen, suggesting that the next entry may end up being another reboot. Whether this is in relation to an announcement involving Mortal Kombat 12 is hard to say, though SonicFox seems convinced.

Previously, it was rumored that Mortal Kombat 12 may be another reboot, which is something that the aforementioned website revamp also appears to suggest. Other details shared via the rumor include some new ancestral twists. Both Sonya Blade’s father and an ancestor of Kung Lao will make an appearance as playable characters. The source also state that the Krypt will now feature combat, and your character will have the ability to learn new moves from certain opponents. It’s also said to be bigger in scope, featuring new areas to explore.

According to the rumor, Mortal Kombat XII will run on a modified version of Unreal Engine 4, and will arrive sometime in the year 2023. Of course, even if the rumor is true, there’s a chance the project may move over to Unreal Engine 5, as has been the case with other future Unreal Engine releases. As is the case with all rumors and speculation, we urge our readers to take them with a grain of salt until official confirmation is available.
