A new PlayStation Portal model has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, potentially signalling an upcoming hardware revision of Sony’s remote-play device.
The certification lists two new model numbers, CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105. The latter could be a regional variant for Europe, although Sony hasn’t confirmed what the two models represent.
The current PlayStation Portal models are CFI-Y1000, CFI-Y1001 and CFI-Y1016. The move to the CFI-Y2000 series suggests a more substantial hardware revision rather than a minor regional change, although the certification itself doesn’t reveal what has been changed.
One possibility is an OLED version of the PlayStation Portal. A previous claim from leaker Kepler_L2 suggested that Sony could be working on a new PlayStation Portal model, although there’s currently no confirmation that the newly certified hardware is that device.
Another possibility is a revised internal design focused on the battery. The new model could potentially make battery replacement easier, but this remains speculation based on the certification.
Sony launched the PlayStation Portal in 2023 as a dedicated PS5 remote-play accessory with an 8-inch 1080p LCD display and DualSense-style controls. The device has since received updates adding features such as cloud streaming through PlayStation Plus.
Sony has yet to announce the CFI-Y2000 or CFI-Y2105, so the specifications and release plans for the new models remain unknown.
