Nintendo May Have Accidentally Leaked The Release Of Super Smash Bros 64 On NSO

Nintendo may have inadvertently leaked the arrival of HAL Laboratory’s 1999 crossover fighting game, Super Smash Bros 64, on Nintendo Switch Online (NSO).

On May 28, 2025, Nintendo released a trailer to showcase three additional features coming to Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics, namely Rewind, Customizable Controls, and CRT filter. Eagle-eyed fans (thanks, ImakuniVT) noticed a blurred out background image during the segment that shows the CRT filter option in the NSO settings (at the 0:40 mark in the video below). The image appears to contain N64 titles that have yet to be announced for NSO.

Going by the image, it appears that Super Smash Bros 64, Glover, Forsaken 64, and Donkey Kong 64 are all headed to NSO at some point in the future. The official announcement may be right around the corner, as known insider John Harker recently hinted at a Nintendo Direct presentation happening sometime soon.

Other announcements that may happen during the rumored Nintendo Direct include a potential Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy XVI. Towards the end of a recent episode of Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer on YouTube, after showing the game in action on the Xbox Series X|S, producer Naoki Yoshida mentioned, “Just Nintendo-san left”, to which creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro responded by saying, “I will do my best.”

Another title that may make an appearance at the next Nintendo Direct is a new mainline Mario game for the Switch 2. During an interview with CNN from a few months ago, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser was asked about the absence of a new mainline Mario title during the prior Direct presentation. “Stay tuned,” he said in response. “You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform.”
