Nintendo Direct Rumors Heat Up After Unlisted Video Hints At eShop Vouchers Return In US

Rumors regarding a new Nintendo Direct have heated up after an unlisted video hinted at the return of eShop vouchers in the US.

It appears that a promotional video from Nintendo that was intended to go live at a later date, possibly during an upcoming Direct, showed up on the internet, suggesting the return of eShop vouchers for Nintendo Switch Online. The offer has been absent from North America since four years.

If it is indeed true that game vouchers are making a return to Nintendo eShop in the US, it will mean that Nintendo Switch owners will have the opportunity to pay $100 and be eligible for two vouchers, with which they can purchase two Nintendo published digital games. Doing so results in a saving of $20 bucks on brand new releases. Nintendo of America has yet to confirm or deny the return of game vouchers.

In other news related to Nintendo, it was reported earlier that the console maker may be in talks with a supplier for the production of its next generation console, the Switch successor. According to a new story from Nikkei, Nintendo is in the process of discussing hardware with suppliers regarding the production of its Switch successor.

The article mainly focused on the current market standing of the Nintendo Switch as well as its sales outlook. According to Nikkei, 20 million Nintendo Switch hardware units are expected to be sold in the year 2023, and that the successor is not expected until the second half of 2024. The story also stated that the Nintendo Switch era will likely surpass the NES era as the longest console generation for Nintendo.

However, Nikkei stated that the life of the Nintendo Switch will inevitably come to an end. When questioned regarding the next-generation console strategy at press conferences, President Shuntaro Furukawa responded by saying that Nintendo wants to provide entertainment that is different from its competitors. He also said that behind-the-scenes negotiations with suppliers regarding the production of its next console are now beginning.
