Nintendo has reaffirmed that its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie remains on track for a 2027 release, while revealing that its entertainment business delivered significant growth during the latest quarter.
Discussing its financial results, the company stated, “A live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda is planned for release in 2027. Going forward, we will take a variety of approaches to continually create contact points with Nintendo characters all over the world, working to convey the appeal of Nintendo’s entertainment offerings to an even wider audience.”
Nintendo also reported strong growth in its intellectual property business. IP-related revenue reached ¥34.8 billion during the quarter, an increase of 107.4% year over year.
According to the company, the improvement was driven primarily by strong audience engagement with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Nintendo’s accompanying investor presentation further noted that IP-related income more than doubled during the quarter, supported in part by continued growth from movies and video content tied to the film.
The latest update highlights Nintendo’s continued expansion beyond video games, with the company investing further in films and other entertainment projects while using its characters to reach a broader global audience. The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie remains one of Nintendo’s biggest upcoming releases outside its gaming business and is currently scheduled to arrive in 2027.
