Nintendo has officially moved up the release date for its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. The film will now arrive in theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027, one week earlier than its previously scheduled May 7 release.
The announcement was shared directly by Shigeru Miyamoto through the company’s official social media account. “This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7,” he said. Miyamoto added that “the team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible” and thanked fans for their patience ahead of release.
The upcoming adaptation is being produced jointly by Nintendo and Sony Pictures. Wes Ball, known for directing the Maze Runner films, is attached as director, while Miyamoto and Avi Arad are serving as producers on the project.
Principal photography for the film reportedly wrapped in April 2026. While Nintendo has yet to reveal major story details, the movie stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. Early production reports have pointed toward a more “grounded and real” approach while still aiming to preserve the adventurous tone the series is known for.
The project remains one of the most closely watched video game adaptations currently in development, particularly following the commercial success of Nintendo’s recent Mario-related film projects.
