People Can Fly May Be Working On A PvP Focused Gears Of War Game
People Can Fly may be working on a brand new Player vs Player (PvP) focused Gears of War game with Microsoft.
According to job listings for the position of Senior Level Designer at People Can Fly, the studio appears to be working on a PvP shooter in partnership with Microsoft, suggesting that it may be a brand new Gears of War spin-off.
As per the listing, People Can Fly is working on a game tentatively titled Project Maverick in collaboration with Microsoft. It is a yet to be announced AAA game that is being developed by the studio’s European and North American teams. The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5.
Candidates for the position are expected to have experience in level design, both practice and theory (chokepoints, routes, lines of sight, engagement distances). They are also expected to be experienced in working with the shooter genre and in creating PvP maps. All of this points towards a new Gears of War spin-off that focuses on multiplayer, specifically PvP.
People Can Fly is not new to the Gears of War series. The studio has previously worked on Gears of War: Judgment for the Xbox 360. It was released in North America and Australia on March 19, 2013, and in Europe on March 22. Serving as a prequel to the Gears of War series, it focuses on Damon Baird, Augustus Cole, and their squad Kilo, who are on trial for disobeying orders.
As for the next mainline entry in the Gears of War franchise, Windows Central editor and The Xbox Two podcast co-host Jez Corden had reported some time ago that he’s heard some impressive things about what The Coalition has been working on with regards to the Gears series. He urged fans to be a little more patient, as it will ultimately be rewarded.
