SEGA has announced that Kotone Shiomi, the female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable, is coming to Persona5: The Phantom X. The character will be added to the mobile and PC game on September 24 as part of a special Persona 3 Portable event celebrating the Persona series’ 30th anniversary.
A new trailer has been released introducing Kotone ahead of her arrival. The update will give her a brand new 3D model, while players can also expect new arrangements of songs originally featured in Persona 3 Portable.
Kotone’s appearance in Persona5: The Phantom X will be part of the game’s September 24 update. SEGA has not provided further details about how she will be incorporated into the game’s story or combat systems in the announcement.
The celebration also brings back several Persona 3 Reload characters. Starting September 15, Makoto Yuki, Yukari Takeba and Akihiko Sanada will be available through the Most Wanted Phantom Idol Contracts Comeback event. Their associated event stories will also become playable again, allowing players who missed their original appearances to experience the content.
Persona5: The Phantom X follows a high school student living a double life in Tokyo. During the day, players can explore locations including Shibuya, Shinjuku and Kichijoji, while activities such as clubs, part-time jobs and spending time with friends form part of the school-life experience.
At night, the protagonist enters the Metaverse, where the Phantom Thief side of the game takes over. Players confront Shadows using Personas and turn-based combat, while relationships formed during everyday life can unlock abilities that help in the Metaverse and contribute to the progression of the story.
The game also incorporates social activities into its progression, with players able to spend time with friends through activities such as watching movies, sharing meals and going on dates. These relationships can develop into stronger bonds and provide gameplay benefits.
Kotone Shiomi’s arrival gives Persona5: The Phantom X another connection to Persona 3 Portable as SEGA prepares to celebrate three decades of the Persona franchise. The new content will begin rolling out with the September 24 update on mobile and PC.
