PlayStation is issuing out refunds to all those who purchased The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered despite owning a digital copy of the PS4 version of the game.
In a gesture of goodwill, PlayStation is issuing refunds for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered to all those who already own a digital copy of the PS4 original, and were likely unaware of the upgrade path. While the remastered version of Naughty Dog’s stealth action game costs $49.99, the upgrade for existing owners of the PS4 game only costs $9.99.
In its accompanied message to PlayStation user who received the refund, Sony Interactive Entertainment informed that, as an owner of the PS4 digital version of The Last of Us Part 2, they will receive a digital upgrade to the PS5 digital version at a deeply discounted price on launch day i.e. January 19, 2024. The console maker stated that it didn’t want fans to lose out on that opportunity, therefore, as a gesture of good will, it has refunded their purchase for the pre-order of the PS5 version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered so that they may purchase the digital upgrade on launch day.
Sony Interactive Entertainment assured fans that, by purchasing the digital upgrade, they will also receive any pre-order bonuses included in their original pre-order. They informed PlayStation users that the refund amount will be credit back to their original payment method, though the process may take up to 60 days to appear on their statement. If, for any reason, Sony Interactive Entertainment is unable to issue a refund to their original payment method, the amount will be credited to their PlayStation Network wallet.
For the uninitiated, The Last of Us Part II is set five years after The Last of Us (2013) and follows two playable characters in a post-apocalyptic United States: Ellie, seeking revenge for a murder, and Abby, a soldier caught in a conflict between her militia and a religious cult. The game is played from the third-person perspective, requiring players to combat human foes and zombie-like creatures using firearms, improvised weapons, and stealth. Players experience an action-adventure game from a third-person perspective with elements of survival horror. Traversing post-apocalyptic settings like buildings and forests is crucial for advancing the story. Players can use firearms, improvised weapons, and stealth to defend against hostile humans and infected creatures affected by a mutated Cordyceps fungus.
