Pokémon Legends: Arceus Becomes One of Twitch’s Most Streamed Pokémon Games

by Greg Martin

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is one of the most-streamed games on Twitch in its debut week, also setting a new franchise record.

Based on the Twitch stats during its launch day, the game peaked at roughly 477K players on launch. This is almost twice the peak for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which hit 247K. While Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a remake, so it is understandable that there is less interest around it compared to something new like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it still doesn’t undermine this achievement.

If we compare the launch peak of Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Pokémon Sword and Shield, then the game peaked at 188K. This is even though it was a brand new game in the series that started a new generation of Pokémon.

This doesn’t stop here, as the sales also speak for themselves. The game has just opened this week but it is already ranking as the best-selling game of 2022 on Amazon. It also held a position in the top 100 games last year even though this was just for the pre-orders.

All of this shows that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s experiment with creating a brand new action spin-off set in the Pokémon universe has paid off in spades. Not only is the game drawing a new audience, the one that wasn’t too keen on playing a turn-based RPG, it is also satisfying the older fans with its new experimental gameplay systems.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
