Sony has confirmed a widespread PlayStation Network (PSN) outage, with multiple online services currently experiencing issues across PlayStation consoles and the web.
According to the official PlayStation Network status page, problems began at around 7:18 PM and are affecting PS5, PS4, PS3, PS Vita and web services.
Sony has marked Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video and PlayStation Direct as degraded, while the PlayStation Store is experiencing a full outage.
The company said players “might have difficulty signing in or creating an account” and may also encounter problems “launching games, apps, or network features.” The PlayStation Store outage affects purchases, downloads, browsing, searching and voucher redemption.
Sony has not shared a cause for the disruption, stating only that it is “working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
Reports of the outage quickly spread across social media and Reddit, where players said they were unable to sign in to PSN, access the PlayStation Store or verify digital game licences. Many users reported being locked out of both multiplayer titles and single-player games purchased digitally.
Some players also criticised Sony’s status page for initially showing all services as operational, prompting users to spend time troubleshooting their own consoles and internet connections before the outage was officially acknowledged.
Several community members speculated that the disruption could be related to broader issues affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS), although Sony has not confirmed the cause, and there is currently no official evidence linking the outage to AWS.
Sony has yet to provide an estimated time for a full recovery.
