Rayman Legends Retold Adds Free Astro Bot Costume on PS5

by Greg Martin

Rayman Legends Retold will feature an exclusive Astro Bot costume when the platformer launches on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on December 3, 2026. The free outfit brings the two franchises together after Rayman appeared in Astro Bot in 2024.

Players can unlock the costume on their first visit to Victor Velour, the game’s tailor, at his costume shop. The outfit was created through a collaboration between Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft Montpellier, and Team Asobi, the studio behind Astro Bot.

Guillaume Arvieu, Art and World Director on Rayman Legends Retold, and Quentin Chaillet, Lead Character Artist, discussed the design process behind the costume in a new interview published on the PlayStation Blog.

Chaillet explained that adapting Astro Bot’s futuristic appearance to Rayman’s more handcrafted visual style presented a challenge. The team wanted to preserve Astro Bot’s recognisable features while ensuring the design fit naturally into Rayman’s world.

The costume incorporates glossy surfaces, metallic details, glowing blue elements, and smooth white materials. The developers also had to adapt Astro Bot’s proportions to Rayman’s distinctive silhouette, including his large nose, lack of visible arms and legs, and oversized shoes.

Arvieu also discussed the similarities between the two platforming franchises. He highlighted their colourful worlds, varied environments, fluid movement, and emphasis on creative gameplay ideas. Both series aim to encourage exploration and surprise players with new interactions.

According to Arvieu, collaborations between game developers allow teams to exchange ideas and bring together characters that players might not otherwise expect to see in the same game. He also pointed to the different generations of players associated with the franchises, with Rayman having a long history dating back to the original PlayStation and Astro Bot introducing the character to a newer audience.
