Report Claims Star Wars Eclipse Faces Difficult Development as Quantic Dream Cancels Another Project

Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse is reportedly facing a difficult development process, according to a new report from French union organization STJV that also details the cancellation of another long-running internal project.

The report claims Quantic Dream recently canceled Spellcasters Chronicles after roughly eight years of development, with around 95 jobs now potentially at risk. According to STJV, nearly one quarter of the company’s workforce could be affected by the restructuring.

STJV sharply criticized the project’s leadership and management structure, claiming the game suffered from years of mismanagement and repeated development reworks. “Catastrophic project management resulted in iteration after iteration, exhausting the team and leading production straight to disaster,” the organization stated.

The report further alleges that worker representatives repeatedly warned management about the project’s risks but were ignored. STJV claimed company leadership believed success was effectively guaranteed due to the experience of senior decision-makers.

“Failure was never an option, never thought about, never planned for,” the statement said.

According to the report, management is now attempting to lay off much of the Spellcasters team while arguing their skills are not transferable to Star Wars Eclipse development despite prior training efforts.

STJV also claimed that many of the same issues affecting Spellcasters may be impacting Star Wars Eclipse as well. “The same causes lead to the same problems: Star Wars Eclipse entered production at the same time as Spellcasters, with the same directors, and its development is proving just as complicated,” the organization stated.

Quantic Dream has not publicly responded to the claims at the time of writing.

Star Wars Eclipse was officially announced in 2021 as a narrative-driven action-adventure game developed in partnership with Lucasfilm Games. Set during the High Republic era, the project features multiple playable characters and branching storylines shaped by player decisions.

The game remains without a confirmed release date or official platform lineup, though it is widely expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S once development is complete.
