The unannounced multiplayer FPS project that Respawn Entertainment had been working on has been canceled, as per the studio’s former Executive Assistant/Production Coordinator.
According to the LinkedIn profile of Emilee Evans, former Executive Assistant/Production Coordinator at Respawn Entertainment, the studio had been working on an unannounced FPS title that has been canceled this week. In her post, she mentioned that she had been a part of the incubation project for the past year. She now joins other talented people in the games industry who are searching for new roles.

Back in December 2020, Respawn Entertainment had listed a job openings on its website for its main office in L.A. The studio had been hiring for a Generalist Software Engineer to join its new IP Incubation Team on a new project. “We are looking for a full-time Generalist Software Engineer to join a small new team being formed to develop a brand new IP.” This is the same project that has now been canceled. Going by Evan’s post, it appears that members of the IP Incubation Team have either been laid off or moved to other teams.
Another recent project at Respawn Entertainment that ultimately got canceled was a first-person shooter based on the Star Wars IP. The game was said to have been inspired by classic titles like Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, and was being developed from the ground up leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. In May, 2024, following CEO Andrew Wilson’s announcement of the cuts, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele announced the company’s decision to end the development of Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars first-person action game as a part of a focus on its own owned brands and supporting its existing games.
In 2021, EA put Zampella in charge of the Battlefield franchise following the troubled launch of Battlefield 2042. Pre-alpha gameplay footage from the next entry was recently revealed alongside the announcement to rename developer DICE to Battlefield Studios.
