Rockstar May Have Planned Fidelity & Performance Modes For GTA VI At One Point

Rockstar Games may have planned Fidelity and Performance modes for its upcoming open-world action-adventure game, GTA VI, at one point.

As spotted by Twitter/X user frizkedblizz, two prior leaks captured from development builds of GTA VI suggest that Fidelity and Performance modes may have been planned at one point. The first image was taken from the 808mafia leak that surfaced in 2026, while the second originated from the 2023 leak attributed to the son of art director and one of the heads of development, Aaron Garbut.

The 2026 footage appears to reference a Fidelity mode, while the older footage seems to mention a Performance mode. The images suggest that Rockstar Games may have experimented with different graphics modes during development. Though, this doesn’t confirm that the final release will include these options. The 2026 build is said to be around 6 months old, and its configuration may have changed since the footage was captured. All official GTA VI footage revealed thus far is capped at 30 fps.

Fidelity and Performance modes are common on current-gen consoles, allowing players to prioritize visual quality or smoother gameplay, respectively. However, if GTA VI is CPU-intensive in a majority of gameplay scenarios, achieving frame rates higher than the officially demonstrated 30 fps may be unlikely, even on the more powerful PS5 Pro.

In June, during an episode of the Rock and Borys podcast, co-host Rock claimed that GTA VI was planned to launch with both a 30 fps Quality mode and a 60 fps Performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. He mentioned getting this information form a “very credible” source close to Rockstar Games. Based on what he was told, Rockstar Games has not yet finalized whether the 60 fps mode will be ready for launch on November 19, 2026. He mentioned that development was proceeding under major time constraints, and that there remains a possibility the Performance mode may arrive via a post-launch update if it does not meet the studio’s standards in time for release.
