Sword of the Sea launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29, Giant Squid and publisher Fictions have announced. The release date was confirmed during the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase, bringing the atmospheric adventure to both platforms after its original release on PS5 and PC.
The game follows the Wraith, who uses a Hoversword to travel across a lost ocean and restore life to the world. The unique traversal system combines surfing with tricks and momentum inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding, allowing players to move across sand and water while exploring ancient ruins and hidden areas.
Created by Giant Squid studio head Matt Nava, Sword of the Sea puts movement and exploration at the centre of its gameplay. Players will navigate platforming challenges and explore environments that change as the sea returns, with the world featuring dynamic wave physics and distinctive visual design.
The game also features an original soundtrack composed by Grammy Award-winning composer Austin Wintory. Nava previously worked on ABZÛ and The Pathless, as well as serving as art director on Journey.
Sword of the Sea will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S from October 29, 2026. The game is already available on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
