Saints Row Rating Details All Mature Content; Topless Nudity Can Be Toggled Through Menu

Saints Row is an upcoming open-world game from Deep Silver Volition. The game has been rated with details about the mature content.

Saints Row games are known for their outrageous humor and mature content; this is not a different case for this upcoming series refresh. It has all the things that are expected from the Saints Row IP but with a new setting and protagonist.

In the official rating by IMDA Singapore, we learn more about the game including its violent and mature content. See below if you are worried about the nudity featured in it.

The rating description clarifies the details around the nudity featured in the game with the following information. “The game may depict some nudity, including female topless nudity. The player character has the option to go nude, with choices to modify the size of certain body parts such as the chest and groin during character customisation. Vital parts are concealed by mosaic patches or cartoon emojis, but the nipples can optionally be shown through a menu toggle.”

“Saints Row (2022)” is a reboot of the open-world, third-person action series, and is set in the fictional, crime-ridden American city of Santo Ilesto. In this instalment, the player assumes the role of “The Boss”, who leads a team of discontented characters from three criminal gangs to wrestle power from their organisations.

The game is rated M18 for mature themes, violence and coarse language.

The player will control the protagonist from a third-person perspective to explore the city on foot or in vehicles. Through a series of missions and side-quests, the player engages in a range of criminal activities, including heists, assassinations and scams. Completion of these tasks will progress the narrative and grant rewards such as cash and experience points.

Throughout the game, there are scenes of graphic violence where the player can use a variety of weapons to kill human enemies, such as shotguns, rocket launchers and assault rifles. The player can also employ melee attacks and ride various vehicles, such as cars, tanks and aircraft, to maim enemy characters and damage other vehicles. Such scenes of violence often result in copious blood buffs and splatters being portrayed. Aside from violence against rival gangs and law enforcement, the player can indiscriminately attack pedestrians and bystanders, but is never instructed to. Engaging in combat often results in the player temporarily gaining notoriety which increases the game difficulty. Under the M18 rating, the Classification Guidelines permit “depictions of realistic violence, such as killing, maiming or causing other serious injury to humanoid characters”, and “content that requires the player to engage in illegal activities or play the role of a criminal, but without detailed instructions for committing crimes”.

Coarse language is frequently uttered by characters and seen in the English subtitles, and can also be heard in the soundtrack. Expletives include “motherf**ker” and “f**k”, and there is also the use of crude language such as “shit”, “hell” and “ass”, as well as explicit sexual references. These are contained under the M18 rating, where the Classification Guidelines permit “frequent use of strong coarse language, such as “f**k” and “motherf**ker”.

The game may depict some nudity, including female topless nudity. The player character has the option to go nude, with choices to modify the size of certain body parts such as the chest and groin during character customisation. Vital parts are concealed by mosaic patches or cartoon emojis, but the nipples can optionally be shown through a menu toggle. The M18 Guidelines allow “depiction of topless nudity or occasional full-frontal nudity. Nudity should not titillate or be the main feature of the game”.

Verbal references during one scene allude to a man being involved in romantic relations with other men, but there are no visual depictions of the relationships or any intimacy. The M18 Classification Guidelines allow the depiction of “some homosexual content, if discreet in treatment and not gratuitous”.

So basically, there will be a toggle in the menu to show nipples on the character while the game does feature a nude character, they will be either blurred or have cartoon emoji on their private parts for comic effects. This is not a big surprise knowing the history of the game. It features some absurd humor and weapons.

Saints Row is out on August 23, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. It was developed by Deep Silver Volition and will be published by Deep Silver. The game was originally announced to launch in early 2022 but it was delayed to late 2022.
