Sony Is Reportedly Saving Bigger Announcements For Pre-E3 2023 PlayStation Showcase

Sony is reportedly saving major game announcements for its pre-E3 2023 PlayStation Showcase event, according to the latest information.

During the latest episode of Game Mess Decides, Jeff Grubb, who is known for his connections in the game industry, reaffirmed that Sony is saving its own actual “good stuff” for the PlayStation Showcase that, according to him, is set to happen sometime before E3 2023.

Grubb stated that the unannounced PlayStation Showcase event was originally supposed to happen during Fall 2022. However, it kept getting pushing back, as first-party studios weren’t quite ready to show what they’ve been working on. According to Grubb, the first-party output is now ready to be revealed, and, as such, Sony will be having a “massive” show in order to set up the “second phase” of the PS5 lineup.

Grubb had previously leaked the schedule for both the State of Play, which occurred on February 23, 2023, as well as the PlayStation Showcase set for sometime before E3 2023. He had stated that fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too high, as the State of Play event would be be pretty low-key. As it turns out, this was indeed the case. According to Grubb, PlayStation will likely be relaunching its marketing campaign very soon, which began with yesterday’s State of Play. He said that the forthcoming PlayStation Showcase will be the one that will have major reveals and announcements.

The unannounced PlayStation sci-fi RPG that is allegedly being developed in Unreal Engine 5 by developer People Can Fly may be one of the games featured at the PlayStation Showcase. Based on leaked information, the game is a sci-fi RPG developed in Unreal Engine 5 as first/second party PlayStation IP via the console maker’s xDev program in collaboration with an external game studio, likely People Can Fly. Additionally, Dusk Golem, who is known for his contacts in the game industry, stated that he couldn’t say whether the project will ever see the light of day, Though, he mentioned that he had seen a lot more of the unannounced game, including more recent footage than what is seen in the leaked video.
