Split Fiction Rated Advisory 16 by IMDA Singapore for Moderate Violence and Language

by Ali Haider

Split Fiction, developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts, has been rated Advisory 16 (suitable for ages 16 and above) by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). This rating indicates that the game contains moderate violence, bloodshed, and occasional strong language.

Set to be released in March 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, Split Fiction invites players to step into the roles of Mio and Zoe, two aspiring writers trapped in a glitch-ridden simulation. The protagonists must work together to navigate a merging of their fictional worlds, solving puzzles and overcoming enemies to escape the simulation. Played from a third-person perspective, the game emphasizes teamwork through exploration, combat, and problem-solving.

IMDA Classification Factors

  • Violence Depictions: Combat sequences feature players using weapons like swords, whips, and spells to fight enemies, including sci-fi soldiers, robots, and fantasy creatures. While general combat is fast-paced with sparks and health bar depletion, stronger depictions of violence occur in story cutscenes. These include:
    • Enemies being struck with swords or shot with machine guns, resulting in brief blood bursts.
    • Characters being impaled by scythes, severed body parts, and blood splatter.
    • Specific scenes such as a troll’s hand severed by a guillotine and a dragon’s eye gouged during a fight.
  • Language Use: Dialogue contains mild profanity, including terms like “bastard,” “shit,” “damn,” and “goddamn.”

The IMDA allows portrayals of realistic violence as long as they are not excessively graphic, in accordance with the Advisory 16 guidelines. The representations should be moderate and avoid gratuitous details.

In Split Fiction, gameplay emphasizes collaboration, requiring players to solve puzzles and overcome challenges in dynamically changing environments. Combat features a variety of tools and magical abilities, as well as occasional control of aircraft and machine guns for vehicular combat scenarios. The game’s richly designed worlds blend fantasy and sci-fi elements, creating an engaging narrative-driven experience for players.

Split Fiction will be available starting March 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
