Undead Labs’ survival horror game, State of Decay 3, has allegedly not been cancelled, and a Closed Beta is still planned.

According to content creator Sunny Games, recent rumors claiming State of Decay 3 has been cancelled are inaccurate. While acknowledging that uncertainty still surrounds the studio following recent developments, he insisted that development is continuing and said he is significantly more optimistic than he was previously.

“There is a ton of misinformation out there,” Sunny Games said. “Guys, I repeat, the game is not cancelled.” While he admitted he could not reveal the reason behind his renewed confidence, citing undisclosed information, he added that he now feels “much, much better” about the project’s future, despite remaining cautious about potential changes under the game’s new ownership.

The content creator also cautioned that questions remain regarding what concessions or creative changes the new owners may request. He suggested that State of Decay 3’s direction, business model, and overall vision could still change before release. He further claimed that the game’s internal testing schedule remains intact. According to him, Alpha 2 has already begun, with invited testers currently participating under an Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

Sunny Games stated that, “as far as I know, beta testing is still on the docket,” adding that he expects to participate himself after already taking part in prior alpha tests. He also explained that while the first two alpha phases have been exclusive to PC players, the planned Closed Beta is expected to include console users.

He also claimed that development of State of Decay 3 has continued uninterrupted, with frequent updates bringing improvements between alpha milestones. He also praised the latest build, saying it’s noticeably better than previously shown gameplay footage.

Furthermore, Sunny Games revealed that he had contacted Undead Labs studio head Philip Holt about the possibility of conducting an interview. While no agreement has been reached, he said Holt didn’t reject the idea outright, suggesting that any potential interview would likely depend on the game’s new ownership.
