Spike Chunsoft has released a new trailer for STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT, offering a closer look at a brand-new story route that will be included in the upcoming remake of the acclaimed visual novel. The newly revealed scenario introduces players to the “Gamma Worldline,” a storyline that was absent from the original 2009 release of STEINS;GATE.
The additional route follows protagonist Rintaro Okabe after he endures a series of devastating events and finds himself in an unfamiliar worldline. In this version of reality, the time machine was never completed and D-Mails, the messages capable of altering the past that play a central role in the original story, do not exist. Faced with a drastically different world than the one he remembers, Okabe struggles to understand what has happened.
According to Spike Chunsoft, the Gamma Worldline presents a significantly altered version of Okabe’s life. Upon seeking help from the Future Gadget Laboratory, he is met not by trusted companions but by hostility from the very people who should be his allies. The route explores a reality where the eccentric persona of Hououin Kyouma never emerged, removing one of the defining aspects of Okabe’s character and setting the stage for a much darker narrative.
The story places Okabe alongside Moeka Kiryu and explores themes of isolation, despair, and moral compromise. Spike Chunsoft describes the route as delivering a different kind of brutality than what fans experienced in previous storylines, promising a challenging and emotionally intense journey for both the protagonist and players.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT revisits the original visual novel that first launched on Xbox 360 in 2009. Developed by MAGES., the remake features fully overhauled visuals alongside new narrative content designed to expand upon the original story. The addition of the Gamma Worldline represents one of the most significant pieces of new content announced for the project so far.
The game is scheduled to release on August 20, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5 versions will follow on October 29, 2026.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will be available in both Standard and SteelBook Editions, priced at $59.99 and $69.99 respectively. The visual novel supports Japanese voice acting and text options in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
