Stellar Blade Will Feature 3 Graphics Modes

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Shift Up’s upcoming action adventure game, Stellar Blade, features 3 graphics modes for players to choose.

Speaking during an interview, Stellar Blade game director Hyung-Tae Kim and technical director Dong-Gi Lee shared that the game will feature 3 a total of graphics modes. Kim mentioned that the action adventure title is developed with 60 fps in mind, and the performance mode is, therefore, the way to go in order to experience smooth gameplay. He added that the game takes advantage of the PS5’s DualSense controller features, including haptics, adaptive triggers in third-person mode, and even the touchpad.

Stellar Blade Graphics Modes Detailed

Details regarding each of the 3 graphics modes available in Stellar Blade can be seen below.

  • Performance Mode: targets 60 fps while running at a lower native resolution
  • Resolution Mode: runs at native 4K (2160p) while targeting 30 fps
  • Balanced Mode: deliver a balance between image quality and performance, likely running at a resolution between that of Performance and Resolution mode while targeting 60 fps in a less consistent manner

Additionally, it was mentioned during the interview that, in terms of combat, Stellar Blade is “somewhere between Bayonetta, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”. The combat is said to be more combo oriented in the beginning, but as you make progress, you learn to parry and dodge, and then you learn different types of skills depending on how you need them, making things more fast-paced and varied.

Regarding Stellar Blade’s level design, Kim stated that, at the beginning, levels play out in linear fashion. However, once you reach the city called Xion, it opens up and becomes more semi-open world. Later, the game returns to linear sections albeit with some variations.

Stellar Blade is set for release exclusively on PS5. It will be available to play from April 26, 2024.
