Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Has Fallen Short Of Warner Bros’ Expectations

Rocksteady Studios’ latest action adventure shooter, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, has fallen short of Warner Bros’ expectations.

During its Fourth Quarter 2023 Earnings Call, Warner Bros Discovery Chief Financial Officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels, revealed (at 22:50) that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, has fallen short of the company’s expectations. It is considered one of the company’s “key” video game releases in 2024.

Wiedenfels stated that, as a result of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League falling short of expectations, the company’s game business has been setup for a tough year-over-year comparison in Q1. The first quarter of the previous fiscal year in Warner Bros’ game business benefited greatly from the commercial success of Hogwarts Legacy.

It comes as no surprise that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed to meet sales expectations. The negative reactions and feedback to early trailers and the subsequent delay created a negative sentiment across the community, with concerns regarding its inclusion of microtransactions as well as it being an online only game.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a spin-off based on the Batman: Arkham series. It is available on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Serving as a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight (2015), the game focuses on the DC Comics team named Suicide Squad. It features an original story set in the DC Universe as the Squad must take on an impossible mission to save Earth and kill the world’s greatest DC Super Heroes, the Justice League. The plot picks up five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, so players who are familiar with the Batman: Arkham series will see some related narrative elements pop up in the game.

The storyline follows four supervillains – Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark – who are enlisted by Amanda Waller to thwart the alien invader Brainiac and eliminate the Justice League members under his influence in Metropolis. The game offers an open-world design, allowing players to freely explore Metropolis either solo or cooperatively.
