Supermassive Games Begins Redundancy Process Affecting 75 Staff

Supermassive Games has begun a redundancy consultation process that could result in up to 75 employees losing their jobs. The British developer said the move is necessary to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the company.

In a statement, Supermassive Games said, “We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues.”

The studio acknowledged the difficulty of the situation and said supporting affected employees would be its priority throughout the consultation process. The statement added, “We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted.”

Founded in 2008 by brothers Pete and Joe Samuels, Supermassive Games is based in Guildford, Surrey. The studio became known for its cinematic, choice-driven horror games, where player decisions can determine how stories unfold and which characters survive.

Supermassive has developed several major projects in recent years, including The Quarry and The Dark Pictures Anthology. Its latest entry in the anthology, Directive 8020, was released in May 2026.

The studio has also worked on established franchises, developing The Casting of Frank Stone in the Dead by Daylight universe and taking over development of the Little Nightmares series. Little Nightmares III was released in October 2025.

Supermassive Games is currently owned by Nordisk Games. The company has not provided further details about which teams or projects could be affected by the redundancy process.
